Sarah started in the forest industry around 20 years ago, completing her Bachelor of Forestry Science at Canterbury (much to her parents initial bewilderment). Since graduating she has worked as a Graduate at Timberlands (highlights include shift work at the KPP and 3 months based in Tassie), had a 6 month break to travel (India to see tigers, UK and Europe), 4.5 years at Scion, before settling into her current role at PF Olsen. Along the way she also gained her Masters of Environmental Management. When not working she enjoys reading, walking her 2 dogs, or training for her next adventure race.
Sarah loves the complexity you get when managing forests, people and species together for improved outcomes. Added bonus, is the short queues for toilets at industry events.
Sue is a strong supporter of the forest industry as a great place to work. She is an active member of the Smart and Connected – Forestry group and had active involvement in the “Future of Work” project and successfully worked on a project in conjunction with Te Uru Rakau – Matariki planting project which will involve the MDC and Enviroschools in the Blenheim region.
Student voice for NZIF
Tessa is a third-year Forestry Science student. She wants to make a real difference and a positive impact on the world. With our changing environment, forestry is the solution to protecting it. The area of forestry that interests Tessa is the consultancy space. She wants to help landowners to decide how they want to use their land. Whether this be for carbon, restoration, farm forestry, it is a space that I think I would enjoy.
